Early signing day is tomorrow. Here is what to expect on the Notre Dame football front.
There will be a ton of drama over the next few days with Early Signing Day on the horizon for numerous schools and top prospects. As far as Notre Dame football goes, there won’t be much –if any drama at all — which is exactly what the staff wants.
All of the current 21 commits are expected to ink tomorrow for Early Signing Day, and with there only being room for one or two more recruits, the 2019 class will be all but wrapped up before the next signing day in February.
As of right now with the 21 commits, Notre Dame sits as the No. 10 class on ESPN and No. 11 on 247Sports.
Who to watch for down the stretch?
There are two guys left on the Notre Dame board that could possibly end up Irish by Wednesday.
Defensive end Isaiah Foskey has been a top priority for the staff and he’s had the Irish as his number one school for quite awhile now. Foskey has been saying that he plans to wait for the February signing day to make sure he gets to officially sign with his teammates, but there have been rumbles that he could sign tomorrow and just keep it hush until February rolls around.
Aside from that aspect, there isn’t much drama with him, because the staff fully expects to land him regardless of when he officially sends his letter of intent. Of course, the staff must be pushing for an early signature, because with recruiting, you never really know what could happen.
My feeling: I think he signs tomorrow and gets it over with. He seems like a no-nonsense guy when it’s come to this process.
What about Asa Turner?
As for the second recruit left on the board, linebacker Asa Turner is a Washington commit who choose the Huskies over the Irish a few month ago in an extremely tight battle. The staff didn’t care that he picked Washington over the Irish at the time, because they have continued to go visit and keep in contact with him for months.
Over the past few days, there has been some serious buzz that the Irish have a shot at flipping him and signing him tomorrow. Through the national recruiting intel and updates through social media, it seems almost like a 50/50 shot right now. Irish fans have been getting more optimistic, while the Husky fans are starting to worry. Make sure to keep an eye out over the next 24 hours on where Turner could officially end up. If Turner does ink with the Irish, it would be a massive boost to the defense, and defensive coordinator Clark Lea would be absolutely ecstatic about the addition.
My feeling: I think he’s leaning toward sticking to his commitment with the Huskies, but I would not be surspised if he decides to pull the trigger on the Irish. His head is all Huskies, but I think his heart is all Irish. And I say follow your heart, Asa.
Signing Day starts tomorrow at 7 a.m., so set your alarms and get your coffee ready early. It should be an overall stress free day for the Notre Dame football staff and fans — which is exactly what you want leading into game day on December 29th.
