Notre Dame Fighting Irish

What team would Notre Dame rather face in the playoffs?

Notre Dame is ranked No. 3 in the latest College Football Playoff Rankings. If the season ended today, the Fighting Irish would face Clemson, while Alabama would take on Michigan. There are still a few left to go and things could still move around. Notre Dame heads to Yankee Stadium this weekend to take on Syracuse Orange and then heads out west to Los Angeles to end the season in the Coliseum against the USC Trojans. With that in mind, let’s have some fun.

247Sports and Irish Illustrated have been teaming up to create a ton of videos lately regarding Notre Dame football and Fighting Irish recruiting. The latest video features anchorman Kevin Boilard and Fighting Irish insider Tom Loy.

So, if Notre Dame makes the playoffs and had the option to take on the Alabama Crimson Tide or the Clemson Tigers, who would the Fighting Irish want to face? Both teams are loaded across the board and each program has NFL talent on both sides of the ball. In the end, to be the best, you have to beat the best. Here’s my take:

“That’s going to be a tough one. I think people may be surprised at my answer, but I’m going to go with Alabama. I think that the overall matchup is better for Notre Dame. I know everybody calls this the greatest Alabama team of all-time and it may very well be, but I think that Notre Dame matches up a little better than a lot of other teams across the country would. I think that Notre Dame would be a little afraid of playing that Clemson defensive line and I think that the Alabama secondary sets up pretty well for Ian Book to actually have some success there. But really, I’m watching the Notre Dame defensive line. I think that group is absolutely loaded and I think they could actually give Tua Tagovailoa some fits. So, I’m going to go with Alabama as the team Notre Dame would rather face.”
