Phillip Lindsay may be the NFL’s fourth-leading rusher, but he’s still just a rookie within the walls of Dove Valley.
That fact subjects the sensational running back to lighthearted ridicule from his teammates. And right on cue, Von Miller poked fun at the 5-foot-8 Lindsay for looking like the “Notre Dame Fighting Irish leprechaun.”
Miller’s roast session, which he uploaded to Instagram on Wednesday and is embedded below, was based around an … ahem … interesting outfit that Lindsay wore, prompting Miller to mockingly ask, “Where are your Lucky Charms at?!”
Jokes aside, Miller has done little to mask his thorough appreciation for Lindsay, who was named the AFC Offensive Player of the Week following his 157-yard, two-touchdown effort against the Bengals last Sunday.
“He’s just out of this world,” Miller said after the game. “He’s a great running back and a great teammate. It’s really no surprise to me especially, because I’ve seen it time and time again at practice. I can see the aura around him when he’s walking through the locker room. He’s going to be great. He’s going to be great.”
Unfortunately for Lindsay, he’s been reminded of his diminutive frame upon arrival as an undrafted free agent. He recalled an anecdote involving nose tackle Domata Peko, who birthed a running gag about the “little dude.”
“When we first got to the Denver Broncos, all the rookies had to stand up in front of everybody, so I was kind of nervous anyway,” Lindsay told reporters Sunday. “You had to say where you were from, who you were. So I say, ‘My name’s Phillip Lindsay, I went to the University of Colorado, and I’m from Colorado.’ Everybody started laughing — little dude (laughs). Peko has never dropped that since (laughs). Every time I walk by his locker he says it (laughs). It’s a good little story.”
