The rout is on. Notre Dame football is rolling on the road against Wake Forest. The Fighting Irish offense is putting on a show.
The latest score comes on a 7-yard throw and catch from quarterback Ian Book to wide receiver Chase Claypool, who reached over the goal line for the touchdown. Notre Dame now leads 35-13 with a little over 9 minutes left in the third quarter.
After forcing a punt on the first possession by Wake Forest, the Irish tookover at their own 26. Running back Jafar Armstrong started things with a short 3-yard run. Book hit Claypool for four yards and set up a key third down. Armstrong ran for five yards and moved the chains. Then Book hit Armstrong for 8 yards and the Irish were inside Wake Forest territory. Running back Tony Jones Jr. ran for four yards and another Notre Dame first down. Then Book hit Jones for a big 30-yard gain, which is featured in the clip above, and set the Irish up inside the Demon Deacons 10-yard line. Claypool scored two plays later.
On the day, Book is 20 of 28 for 238 yards, 2 touchdowns and 1 rushing score.
