The Daily News | ND, Attica, Albion compete at Laps for Life Sprint Invitational

WEBSTER — The Notre Dame/Batavia, Attica and Albion swim teams all participated in the annual Laps for Life Sprint Invitational at Webster Aquatics Center, sponsored by Albion High School, held to raise awareness and money for childhood cancer research.

On the girls side, Attica finished in second with a total of 423, while Notre Dame was third with 253 and Albion fourth (251); Harley-Allendale-Columbia took first with 459.

For the boys, Albion finished a solid second with 333, with the Fighting Irish fifth and Attica sixth. The boys winner was Webster with 537.

Reagan Bifarella had a big day for the Attica girls as she picked up four victories. Bifarella won the 50 freestyle in :26.40 and the 50 breaststroke in :34.19, while she also won as a part of the 400 IM relay (5:08.87) and the 100 free relay (:53.38).

Also winning in the relays for the Blue Devils were Libby Kibler, Jordyn Stachowiak and Abby Baratta.

The Notre Dame girls 100 free relay team of Rachel Nickerson, Adryona Miller, Rebeka Nickerson and Skye Colantonio broke the school record with a time of :53.64, besting the old record of :54.88 set back in 2002.

Colantonio added a first place in the 50 backstroke with a time of :32.49, while Miller won the 100 breaststroke in 1:24.99. Rachel Nickerson scored a pair of second places in the 100 backstroke (1:05.91) and the 50 free (:27.65).

The Irish 200 medley Relay team of Colantonio, Miller, Rachel Nickerson and Lucia Sprague placed second in 2:16.65.

Also for the girls, Albion’s Michaela Pantano touched first in the 100 butterfly with a time of 1:12.96.

In the boys meet for Notre Dame/Batavia, Cooper Mattice had a solid day as he won the 100 backstroke with a time of :56.92 and took second in the 100 butterfly (:57.92).

The Albion boys 200 medley relay team of Thomas Furmanski, Matt Kovaleski, Sam Sanchez and Harrison Brown took first with a time of 1:50.18.

Also for Notre Dame, Dan Nickerson claimed a pair of thirds in the 100 free (:56.62) and the 100 breaststroke (1:15.71) and Harrison Southall added a pair of fifths in the 500 free (:25.58) and the 50 butterfly (:28.00), while Aaron Treleaven placed fourth in the 100 backstroke (1:04.86) and seventh in the 100 butterfly (1:10.12).

Mattice, Southall, Treleaven and Southall teamed up in the 200 medley relay (1:55.03) to tie for second and took third in the 4-x-100 IM relay in 4:17.94.

The “fork” ratings are based primarily on food quality and preparation, with service and atmosphere factored into the final decision. Reviews are based on one unsolicited, unannounced visit to the restaurant.
