Pontiac Notre Dame Prep hockey skates past Gibraltar Carlson w/ PHOTO GALLERY | MIPrepZone

Notre Dame Prep went on the road Tuesday night and defeated Gibraltar Carlson at Kennedy Recreation Center in Trenton.

The Fighting Irish took a two-goal lead into the second intermission and then added three more goals in the third period to come away with a 6-1 victory over the Marauders.

For Notre Dame (3-2), Nick Popov and Nick Wagner both scored twice in the contest, while Vincent Anderson had a goal and two assists and Will Caton had one goal and one assist. In addition, Toby Roth was credited with two assists in the win over Carlson (0-6).

The Irish opened the scoring with a goal from Caton about four minutes into the game. He was assisted by Ryan Lindsey and Michael Lau.

Roughly four minutes later, Notre Dame went up 2-0 when Popov found the back of the net, assisted by Anderson. 

It was Anderson who gave the visitors a 3-0 advantage, as he lit the lamp late in the first period. Roth and David Mohr each picked up an assist on the goal.

The Marauders cut their deficit to two when Brendan Payne scored about five minutes into the second period. An assist on the goal went to Spencer Morrison.

Wagner scored both of his goals early in the third period and gave Notre Dame a commanding 5-1 lead. His first goal was assisted by Caton and Zach Vansolkema and came at the 2:03 mark of the period.

Exactly two minutes and one second later Wagner cashed in on a power play. For the night, it was the only power-play goal scored, despite each team getting whistled for eight penalties in the game.

The Irish capped off the scoring when Popov netted his second goal of the night. The goal came with about six minutes remaining and was assisted by Anderson and Roth.

For Carlson, goaltender Mitch Zielinski stopped 44 of the 51 shots he faced on Tuesday night. Notre Dame netminder Grant Williams turned away 25 of 26 shots en route to the victory

The Irish are scheduled to visit Grosse Pointe North on Friday and they will host Portage Central the following night The Marauders were set to visit Royal Oak on Saturday night.
