The Notre Dame coaching staff is all over the country this week, as the staff is looking to continue making headway in the 2020 and 2021 classes. We’ve already talked about the whereabouts of many coaches this week, but now we wanted to share some stops made by special teams coordinator Brian Polian.
Here’s the latest information gathered by Irish Illustrated and 247Sports.
A stop to Mesquite (Texas) Poteet high school occurred earlier this week on Monday. It’s no surprise since that is home to four-star running back Seth McGowan, a 5-11, 200-pounder from the class of 2020. McGowan is ranked as the No. 109 overall player in the country and holds offers from Notre Dame, Alabama, Georgia, LSU, Michigan, Ohio State, Oklahoma and many others.
Another talented recruited at that school is class of 2020 wide receiver Tristan Golightly. His recruitment is still looking to take off, but Louisville has already jumped in the mix with an offer to the 6-5, 205-pounder. That school is also home to class of 2021 tight end Kameron Allen, who has a ton of potential and will land plenty of offers in time. The 6-5, 205-pounder is already receiving interest form the Irish, Michigan State, Houston, Arkansas and many others.
On this week’s agenda for Polian was a trip to Southlake (Texas) Carroll high school to check in with four-star safety RJ Mickens, one of the top overall players in the class of 2020. The 6-1, 188-pounder is ranked as the No. 38 overall player nationally and has an offer list that includes Notre Dame, Alabama, Clemson, Georgia, LSU, Michigan, Ohio State, Oklahoma and many others.
A trip to Frisco (Texas) Lone Star high school was also set for this week. The Notre Dame target at the school is four-star wide receiver Marvin Mims, another big-time talent from the class of 2020. The 6-1, 165-pounder, who is currently listed as the No. 175 overall prospect in the country, has offers from Arizona State, Mississippi State, Nebraska, Ohio State, TCU, Texas A&M and many others. Notre Dame has offered yet.
Polian’s plans also included a trip to Dallas (Texas) Jesuit high school, which is home to yet another Top100 prospect from the 2020 class in four-star all-purpose back EJ Smith. The nation’s No. 86 overall recruit in the country, Smith holds offers from Florida, Georgia, Michigan, Ohio State, Texas A&M, USC and many others. Notre Dame hasn’t jumped into the mix for the 6-0, 190-pounder quite yet.
Another visit that was on this week’s agenda included a trip to Arlington (Texas) Mansfield Timberview high school to see three-star cornerback Jalen Kimber. However, the 6-0, 170-pounder said that they had a change of plans and cornerbacks coach Todd Lyght will be out to see him early next week instead. This makes sense when really thinking about it. Notre Dame is high on this target and there is a great deal of mutual interest. He recently picked up an offer from Notre Dame and has been high on the Fighting Irish for a while, well before that offer ever came his way. In addition to Notre Dame, the 2020 prospect holds offers from Texas, Texas A&M, Michigan, Penn State and many others.
***Update: Jalen Kimber reached out to Irish Illustrated and said that Polian actually stopped by this afternoon. Todd Lyght is still expected next week as well.
