Notre Dame has had quite the start to the 2018 football season. After wins over Michigan, Ball State, Vanderbilt, Wake Forest and Stanford, the Fighting Irish are 5-0 and ranked as the No. 6 team in the country.
This weekend, Notre Dame heads to Blacksburg to take on No. 24-ranked Virginia Tech inside Lane Stadium. It’s a primetime matchup and another major test for this Fighting Irish football team.
Earlier this week, Irish Illustrated and 247Sports College Football Insider Tom Loy joined 247Sports host Victoria Moghaddami to talk about this year’s Notre Dame team and why the playoff talk surrounding the Fighting Irish feels a little more right this year than in years past.
“I think it comes down to confidence. I think this is an extremely confident group. There’s a bunch of playmakers. They know how good they really are, especially on the defensive side of the ball. Now that Ian Book is starting to ball, the offensive side is matching that confidence level of the defense. So, with games remaining this weekend against Virginia Tech, we’ve got Northwestern, Florida State, a couple of others including a road test against USC to finish out the season, there’s no reason why this team can’t go undefeated and be very much in the hunt and make the college football playoffs.”
