The University of Notre Dame basketball and hockey teams are reaching out to support furloughed federal employees in the Michiana area.
Affected federal employees and their families are being offered a night out to enjoy a free Fighting Irish game and meal, the university announced Tuesday.
Complimentary tickets are being offered to all furloughed federal employees to the following Notre Dame athletic events:
Hockey vs. Michigan State (Friday) and Michigan (Feb. 12)
Women’s basketball vs. Georgia Tech (Feb. 3) and Duke (Feb. 21)
Men’s basketball vs. Georgia Tech (Feb. 10) and Wake Forest (Feb. 19)
Affected federal workers should show their federal IDs at the Purcell Pavilion or Compton Family Ice Arena two hours prior to any of those games to receive four free tickets per ID. Those fans also will receive a complimentary concession voucher per ticket, good for one free hot dog or box of popcorn and one regular soda or bottle of water. Parking is free for all the events.
In the event the government shutdown ends prior to the games, Notre Dame will honor the offer for each of the remaining games listed above.
The offer was announced in a letter signed by Muffet McGraw, women’s basketball coach; Mike Brey, men’s basketball coach; and Jeff Jackson, hockey coach.
