Notre Dame Makes College Football Playoff Field

The University of Notre Dame made some history on Sunday as the College Football Playoff selection committee  chose them to compete for the National Championship.

The Fighting Irish, who went 12-0 this season, did not play on Championship Saturday, but they made the playoff for the first time in school history. They will be the first non-Power Five conference school to make the tournament, and would be the first independent school to earn the honors.

The Irish will play Clemson in the Cotton Bowl on Dec. 29 at AT&T Stadium in Dallas.

In the other game, Alabama will take on high-flying Oklahoma in the Orange Bowl in Miami.

The winners of those two games will take the field in Santa Clara, California on January 7 in the National Championship game. Alabama is the defending champion, and head coach Nick Saban will be looking to become the all-time leader in national titles if the Crimson Tide can go back-to-back.
