Notre Dame adds Liufau; Passes Ohio State in team rankings

Notre Dame added a commitment from one of Hawaii’s top prospects earlier today in Honolulu (Hawaii) Punahou high school three-star linebacker Marist Liufau. The 6-3, 210-pounder pledged to the Fighting Irish shortly after his Notre Dame official visit, which was also the weekend he landed the offer. His offer list also included USC, Arizona, Boise State, Utah, Hawaii, Oregon, San Diego State, Utah State and Washington State.

Liufau becomes commitment No. 20 for Notre Dame from the class of 2019. His pledge also boosts the Fighting Irish up one spot according to the 247Sports Composite Team Rankings. Notre Dame is now the No. 12 class nationally after moving ahead of Ohio State following Liufau’s public announcement.

Here are the Top 15 teams according to the national rankings:

Regarding future additions to Notre Dame’s 2019 class, there are only a few spots left this cycle and only a couple of recruits still on the board for the Irish. The names to know include Concord (Calif.) De La Salle four-star defensive end Isaiah Foskey, who is closely considering the Irish, Washington, Michigan, Ohio State and Cal, Kahuku (Hawaii) high school four-star offensive lineman Enokk Vimahi, who is considering Notre Dame, Utah, Washington, Oklahoma and USC, Greenwich (Conn.) Brunswick School four-star wide receiver Cornelius Johnson, who is considering the Irish, Stanford, Michigan, Penn State and Alabama, Carlsbad (Calif.) high school four-star linebacker Asa Turner, who is committed to Washington, but is still talking to Notre Dame, Michigan and USC, and Roswell (Ga.) Blessed Trinity Catholic four-star linebacker J.D. Bertrand, who is still waiting to land a Notre Dame offer. Bertrand was once committed to Georgia, but decided to open up his recruitment.

Per the 247Sports Composite Rankings, Liufau is ranked as the No. 61 outside linebacker this cycle and No. 8 recruit in Hawaii from the 2019 class. 247Sports has him rated higher as the No. 28 player at his position and No. 7 recruit from Hawaii.
