Earlier tonight, an unconfirmed internet rumor that Notre Dame starting quarterback Ian Book was going to be suspended sent Fighting Irish fans into a frenzy. It would obviously be a huge blow.
Book was rumored to be guilty of some type of academic impropriety that would result in his being suspended. Fortunately, it doesn’t seem like it is actually happening, at least right now.
First, One Foot Down, the Notre Dame SB Nation blog, refuted the rumor. Now, two veteran beat writers are doing the same.
Tim Prister of Irish Illustrated said Book is “fine” as it relates to his standing with the football team. Prister adds there is no valid source to confirm or deny the rumor.

Pete Sampson of The Athletic also seemed to downplay any of the Book murmurings.
A note on journalism on Twitter.
1. I read my mentions.
2. I’m not going to respond to questions on rumors.
3. I will look into them.
4. And if there’s something to report, I’ll report it after checking with multiple sources.
5. If there’s nothing to report, I won’t.
6. See #5

Since taking over for Brandon Wimbush in Week 4, Book has played exceptionally well. For the season, he’s completed 77-of-105 passes for 887 yards, nine touchdowns and one interception.
Notre Dame is ranked fifth in the country and will take on Pitt at home on Saturday. Kickoff is set for 2:30 p.m. ET.
