Notre Dame Fighting Irish starting quarterback Ian Book is expected to miss this Saturday’s matchup against the Florida State Seminoles. The school did confirm that Book is dealing with an injury, but has not yet declared him out versus Florida State.
Irish Illustrated reported on Wednesday morning that the junior quarterback has been battling a rib injury he suffered in Notre Dame’s victory over Northwestern last weekend. Notre Dame, which is 9-0 and currently ranked No. 3 in the College Football Playoff rankings, will face Florida State at home this week at Notre Dame Stadium.
The team’s starter since Game No. 4 at Wake Forest, Book has completed 74.5 percent of his passes through six contests, throwing 15 touchdowns vs. 4 interceptions for 1,824 yards while adding another 218 on the ground with four scores.
Book’s backup, senior Brandon Wimbush, has started 16 games over the last two seasons, winning 12, including the first three outings of 2018. Wimbush rushed for 144 yards and a touchdown to augment a 55.2 percent passing effort, albeit with one touchdown against four interceptions.
