Although most of the Irish faithful were expecting this, it was amazing to see the football team’s advance to the playoffs today.
The announcement wasn’t a big surprise, but it didn’t put a damper on the enthusiasm for fans watching the selection show.
Notre Dame students were ecstatic as their team clinched the number three spot, and the same reaction happened just off campus.
The anticipation had been building to see where the Fighting Irish would end up.
Fans at Brother’s on Eddy Street Commons had a drink and waited eagerly to see this.
They were ecstatic about Notre Dame’s number three ranking.
They’ll go on to face Clemson at the Cotton Bowl Decemeber 29, and fans aren’t worried about the Irish being able to come out of that game with their undefeated record intact.
“I think we can beat Clemson,” said Brianne Toole, Notre Dame Alum.
“I think they’re a solid team, I think they have a really good defense and good defensive line, but I think we’ve played well all year and risen up to the occasion,” said Christopher Barnes, Notre Dame Alum. “I think we’re going to do that again.”
But there’s no telling what will happen if the Fighting Irish make it past Clemson and have to face powerhouse Alabama.
Tryphena Kelly is in town for the Notre Dame/UCONN game and she’s a die-hard Alabama fan — but she’s not ready to write off the Irish completely.
“I won’t say that they don’t have a chance, I just kind of doubt it though,” said Kelly.
Notre Dame fans are still ready for a fight, if you couldn’t tell.
If you want to go to the Cotton Bowl in Arlington, Texas, ticket information will be released on Monday, according to Notre Dame’s website.
