James Named Big 12 Player of the Week

NORMAN – Oklahoma senior guard Christian James was named the Big 12 Men’s Basketball Player of the Week after averaging 19.5 points and 11.5 rebounds in a pair of off-campus wins over Notre Dame and Wichita State. It is the first time in his career he has earned the weekly honor.

A 6-4 guard out of Houston, Texas, James produced the first two double-doubles of his career by recording 25 points and 10 rebounds against Notre Dame and 14 points with a career-high 13 boards against Wichita State.

In the Sooners’ 85-80 victory over the Fighting Irish at Madison Square Garden, James scored 16 of his points in the second half – including Oklahoma’s final nine points of the close contest.

The leading scorer and rebounder in the Sooners’ 80-48 win against Wichita State in Oklahoma City, James became just the fourth OU guard in the Big 12 era with a 13-point, 13-rebound game.

Through nine games, James is second in the Big 12 in scoring average with 19.2 points (averaged 11.9 points last season). He has reached double figures in all but one game this season – including four outings of at least 20 points. His 2.9 made 3-pointers per game rank third in the league.

The Sooners are off to their third 8-1 start (or better) in the last four seasons with a Big 12-leading five wins away from home. Oklahoma has captured early-season victories over Florida, Dayton, Notre Dame and Wichita State.

OU is back in action on Saturday when the Sooners face Southern California at BOK Center in Tulsa, Okla. The non-conference contest tips at 8 p.m. CT on ESPNU.
