The last top ten matchup that was played at Notre Dame Stadium has cemented itself in the annals of Fighting Irish Football history. In a game that is now known for the final play, “The Bush Push”, No. 9 Notre Dame fell to top-ranked USC, the first loss for the Irish that season.
13 years later, the next top ten showdown is set in South Bend. No.7 Stanford is undefeated and this weekend’s matchup against No. 8 Notre Dame will mark the first time since the 1925 Rose Bowl that these two teams will meet with perfect records. Without a ton of fanfare, this matchup now has the potential to carry huge implications in the college football world.
Stanford is without a doubt the best team remaining on Notre Dame’s schedule, and if the Irish can prevail on Saturday, the hype surrounding this Fighting Irish football team will reach a fever pitch.
“I hope it’s a great atmosphere. We thrive on a home field, we’ve had a good run going at home.” Said Notre Dame Head Coach Brian Kelly. “When you’re a top ten team, these are the moments that you wait for and we’re certain that I think we’re going to be met with a great crowd on Saturday.”
The Irish may need some assistance from the home crowd. Notre Dame has lost three straight to the Cardinal. Notre Dame and Stanford will kick-off just after 7:30 pm on Saturday. Tune in to WSBT 22 after the game for all of the highlights and analysis.
