BLACKSBURG, Va. (WFXR) – In Notre Dame’s first-ever visit to Lane Stadium, the Fighting Irish leave Blacksburg with its perfect record in tact after defeating Virginia Tech, 45-23, on Saturday night.
The Hokies had missed opportunities in the first half, including a series of plays where Virginia Tech failed to convert for a touchdown from the one-yard line, instead settling for a field goal.
VT quarterback Ryan Willis threw 31-for-52 for 309 yards and two touchdowns against one interception in his Lane Stadium debut as a starting quarterback. Eric Kumah and Damon Hazleton each had a touchdown reception. Hazleton led the receiving corps with 12 catches and 131 yards.
Fighting Irish running back Dexter Williams scored three touchdowns and ran for 178 yards on 17 carries as Notre Dame improves to 6-0 this season.
Virginia Tech falls to 3-2 and will travel to face North Carolina for another primetime showdown next Saturday.
