Garth Brooks visits Notre Dame Stadium ahead of October concert

NOTRE DAME, Ind. (WNDU) Country music fans can now mark their calendars.

Garth Brooks will play Notre Dame Stadium on October 20 at 7 p.m.

That’s a “bye” weekend for the Fighting Irish football team and it marks the tail end of fall break for the rest of the students.

That means the biggest event of the season could take place on a weekend when the campus is traditionally quiet.

“We’re not supposed to be touring for another six or eight months because we just came off the big tour, but when this call comes in, you don’t say no to this. This is a dream,” Brooks said during an afternoon press conference at Notre Dame stadium.

The decision to start rocking the house that Rockne built couldn’t have come at a worse time for Brooks, although he decided to give it the old college try anyway.

“And my college dorm room had three things on it. Merle Haggard, and it was Joe Montana, Notre Dame, and Candice Collins who was the Playboy centerfold at the time.”

Ironically, the artist known for having friends in low places got the ND gig in part, for his propensity to treat others with dignity and respect.

At an afternoon press conference Brooks was dressed casually because he spent the morning volunteering for Habitat for Humanity.

The concert tickets will cost $79.95 apiece, or $98.95 apiece with fees included.

A ticket in the front row will cost the same as a ticket in the nose bleed section of the back row.

“We’re a one price ticket guy, always have been. It would break my heart if somebody said, ‘hey dad how come we’re not sitting down there?’ Because we can’t afford that.’ It would kill me, so every price is the same, it’s just the luck of the draw where you sit. My hope is that those people who sit in the back have as much fun as people that sit in the front.”

Tickets go on sale September 14th, there is an eight ticket limit per transaction. All sales will come from Ticketmaster or Ticketmaster Express. No tickets will be sold at the Notre Dame box office.

Meantime, Brooks also announced that he will release a new live album in November.

Triple Live will be available for free download tonight with a special download code, exclusively through Ticketmaster.

The download code for the album will be released on Garth’s Facebook page tonight at 7:00 PM ET. Fans will have to tune in to “Inside Studio G,” Garth’s weekly Facebook live series. Garth will reveal the download code live during the show. Fans will be able to download the album from here
