Four SWHS student athletes sign to play collegiate sports at D1 universities

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. (WBKO) — Four student-athletes from South Warren High School signed letters of intent to play sports, all at Division I universities.

Among the four were twin brothers, Luke and Gavin Spurrier, who signed to attend Duke University. Gavin will join the football team, Luke will add to the cross country and track programs.

Jacob Lacey, a 4-star defensive lineman for the Spartans, signed his letter of intent to play D-Line at Notre Dame.

Lacey was highly recruited as a high schooler, but ultimately chose the Fighting Irish.

“I’m excited and a little nervous but mainly excited. I know there’s going to be challenges, you know it’s college football, the big boy ball, you just gotta meet those and exceed them, that’s what I’m looking forward to,” Lacey said.

Another Spartan football player signing on Wednesday, Clayton Bush. Bush player receiver for the Spartans and verbally committed to WKU months ago. Bush signed his letter of intent to be a Hilltopper on Wednesday.

“I wouldn’t be able to do all this without Coach Smith, my family, everybody pushing me and making me the man I am today,” Bush said. “I’m sitting up there with three other D1 athletes, it’s just a shocker.”

The auditorium at SWHS was filled with coaches, teammates, family and friends as all four student-athletes officially made their decisions to continue their academic and athletic careers.
