Elite pass-rusher adds Notre Dame offer while on campus Saturday

While on campus for today’s Notre Dame football game, Waukesha (Wisc.) Catholic Memorial high school four-star defensive end JC Latham, the No. 8 overall player in the country according to 247Sports, received some good news from the Fighting Irish coaching staff.

The 6-6, 270-pounder because the latest class of 2021 prospect to add an offer from Notre Dame. The Fighting Irish join Wisconsin, Iowa, Iowa State, Michigan and Minnesota on Latham’s offer list. Irish Illustrated first reported earlier this week that the elite pass-rusher was making his way to campus and we informed our readers that an offer was likely coming his way.

Latham, his brother, class of 2020 linebacker Langston Latham, and their father were on campus for Notre Dame’s 22-17 victory over the visiting Commodores. The Irish moved to 3-0 on the season and will head to Winston-Salem, N.C., to take on Wake Forest next weekend.

This offer truly comes as very little surprise. Latham is a special talent and the Irish staff will make him a major priority moving forward. 247Sports released the initial Top100 list for the class of 2021 back on Aug. 24. Following the lofty ranking for Latham, 247Sports midwest analyst Allen Trieu shared some thoughts on both the player and the recruitment.

“There is some question as to what JC Latham will be in college,” wrote Trieu. “He played well on the varsity as a freshman defensive end after getting pulled up and earned offers from Wisconsin, Michigan, Iowa, Minnesota and others in the process. However, he has gone from 220 pounds when he started high school to 240 to now 270 as a sophomore and he could be a blue-chip offensive tackle as well. Either way, he is an elite prospect. Wisconsin always does well with in-state kids and they have a former teammate, CJ Goetz, on the roster, but Latham has also visited Michigan twice unofficially.”

As a freshman, Latham registered 20 tackles, 1 sack and 1 defensive touchdown for Waukesha Catholic, which finished 9-3 last season.

Per 247Sports, Latham is the No. 3 strong-side defensive end nationally and No. 1 prospect in the state of Wisconsin from the class of 2021.
