The highlight reel at this year’s Cotton Bowl took off (literally) before the game between Nortre Dame and Clemson even began.
During the national anthem at AT&T Stadium, in a sight commonly seen at sports venues across the country, a bald eagle was released to fly over the crowd during The Star-Spangled Banner.
This particular eagle, however, decided to take ‘land of the free’ a little too much to heart, and instead of flying directly to his handler, took its own tour of AT&T Stadium which included picking out a few choice landing spots on a few Fighting Irish fans:
Yahoo Sports’ Pat Forde was in attendance at Jerry World and gave this account of the scene:
“Clark toured the stadium and alighted upon the shoulder of a freaked out ND fan in a green t-shirt. He then moved to another section in the third level, corner of stadium, and a different ND fan held up his arm like a pro and the eagle landed. Clearly the eagle favors the Irish.
“From there one of his handlers hustled up to procure him”
The real question is — is it too early to hand out the Cotton Bowl MVP award?
