VESTAL, N.Y. – A lot going on over at Binghamton University this weekend.
Saturday featured a doubleheader inside the Events Center as both basketball teams were in action, and it didn’t go well for either team.
Beginning with the women’s team, the Bearcats hosting the Rider Broncs.
Yet another BU player had a career day as Lizzy Spindler scored a career-high 17 points, including going 5-of-7 from three.
But, it was a different high that cost BU the game.
BU turned the ball over a season high 28 times, and Rider converted them into 21 points.
The Broncs outscored BU 21-11 in the third quarter.
A Spindler three with 29 seconds left made it a three-point game, but the Bearcats couldn’t claw their way back.
Rider wins it, 62-57, dropping Binghamton to 5-5 on the season, and it doesn’t get any easier from here.
BU is off until Sunday as they travel to South Bend to face the defending national champions, and second-ranked team in the country, the Notre Dame Fighting Irish.
Just over 24 hours later, the Bearcats are in Milwaukee to face #19 Marquette.
Tip-off between BU and ND is set for 1:00 pm on Sunday.
After the women’s game wrapped up, the BU men’s team took the court.
Sam Sessoms got the Bearcats going early, scoring the game’s first five points.
However, Loyola quickly settled in and took a nine-point lead into the half.
After Binghamton closed the gap to within six, the Greyhounds went on a 14-3 run that closed the door.
They saw five different players finish in double digit scoring, and went 10-of-17 from beyond the arc as a team.
Sessoms continues his outstanding freshman season, finishing with 20 points.
He sits 8th in the nation in rookie scoring.
But, Binghamton fell to Loyola 83-65.
BU has a week of rest as they’re not back in action until Saturday when they welcome in Youngstown State to the Events Center.
Tip time for that one is set for 2:00 pm.
