Notre Dame was part of the four-team College Football Playoff field that was unveiled on Sunday, but Fighting Irish fans had to sweat it out a bit. Oklahoma, Ohio State and Georgia all had solid resumes.
Head coach Brian Kelly was asked what he’d have done if Notre Dame wasn’t part of the field. He had a funny answer:
Brian Kelly says that if Notre Dame didn’t get in that Notre Dame was going to “go the UCF model” and just claim the national title, complete with a statue.

UCF, last year, was not included in the playoff. The Knights defeated Auburn in the Peach Bowl and decided to claim a national title anyway.
It remains to be seen if they’ll do it again this year. They’re undefeated again and they’re headed to a New Year’s Six bowl.
In reality, if Notre Dame did something like this, people would have one answer – join a conference. It’s a little more charming when UCF is the school doing it.
Regardless, Notre Dame is in and it’ll take on Clemson. It should be a great matchup.
