Bertrand commits to Notre Dame; Irish in Top 10 of Team Rankings

Notre Dame added a commitment from one of Georgia’s top football prospects this evening in Roswell (Ga.) Blessed Catholic Trinity four-star linebacker J.D. Bertrand. The 6-0, 220-pounder pledged to the Fighting Irish over a stellar offer list including Colorado, Florida, Florida State, Georgia, LSU, Ole MIss, Stanford, TCU, TEnnessee and many others. In addition, Bertrand was once committed to the in-state Bulldogs.

Bertrand becomes commitment No. 21 for Notre Dame from the class of 2019. His pledge also boosts the Fighting Irish up one spot according to the 247Sports Composite Team Rankings. Notre Dame is now the No. 12 class nationally after moving ahead of Ohio State following Liufau’s public announcement.

Here are the Top 15 teams according to the national rankings:

1) Alabama — 290.39

2) Texas A&M— 285.55

3) Georgia — 279.70

4) Oregon — 273.67

5) LSU — 271.75

6) Clemson — 269.23

7) Texas — 266.35

8) Oklahoma — 266.34

9) Michigan — 261.46

10) Notre Dame — 252.64

11) Florida State — 252.27

12) Auburn — 251.59

13) Ohio State — 249.13

14) Penn State — 247.68

15) Tennessee — 242.89

Regarding future additions to Notre Dame’s 2019 class, there are only a few spots left this cycle and only a couple of recruits still on the board for the Irish. The names to know include Concord (Calif.) De La Salle four-star defensive end Isaiah Foskey, who is closely considering the Irish, Washington, Michigan, Ohio State and Cal. All signs point toward Notre Dame eventually landing his commitment. Kahuku (Hawaii) high school four-star offensive lineman Enokk Vimahi is also in play. He is considering Notre Dame, Utah, Washington, Oklahoma and USC, Greenwich (Conn.) The feeling now is that he’ll end up at Utah. Brunswick School four-star wide receiver Cornelius Johnson, who is considering the Irish, Stanford, Michigan, Penn State and Alabama, is also on the board. However, it would be a surprise if he ended up Irish. Carlsbad (Calif.) high school four-star linebacker Asa Turner is committed to Washington, but still talking with Notre Dame, Michigan and USC. The Irish are working hard to get him flipped prior to the early signing period in late December.

Per the 247Sports Composite Rankings, Bertrand is ranked as the No. 314 overall player this cycle, No. 17 outside linebacker in the nation and No. 34 recruit in Georgia from the 2019 class. 247Sports has him rated higher as the No. 234 nationally, No. 15 player at his position and No. 25 recruit from the Peach State.
