It’s halftime inside Notre Dame Stadium and the Fighting Irish lead the visiting Stanford Cardinal, 21-14. Irish Illustrated brings you a first half recap.
Notre Dame got the scoring started when running back Dexter Williams raced 45 yards to the end zone and gave the Irish a 7-0 lead. Not only was this Williams’ first carry of the game, but it was also his first touch of the entire 2018 football season. He missed the first four games of the year and returned Saturday night against Stanford.

Stanford running back Bryce Love quickly responded and showed exactly why he is considered as arguably the nation’s top player at his position. He took the handoff and ran 39 yards to paydirt to tie the game at seven.
Nothing better than watching Bryce Love expose a ranked team’s defense on a Saturday night

The Fighting Irish responded later in the quarter and took a 14-7 lead. Quarterback Ian Book found tight end Nic Weishar, who was wide open in the end zone, for a 6-yard score to push the Irish ahead.

No surprise, but once again the Cardinal responded to the Irish score with a touchdown of its own. Quarterback KJ Costello connected with wide receiver JJ Arcega-Whiteside for a 4-yard touchdown pass, which was very-well defended by cornerback Julian Love at the time. The game was tied at 14.
Not sure why teams aren’t double teaming Arcega-Whiteside when Stanford gets near the goal line. He’s gonna catch this every time as long as Costello gets it to him on the correct side of his box out pic.twitter.com/DxRJYGOGm7

Just prior to halftime, Notre Dame was able to get back ahead, which is huge due to the fact that the Irish get the ball to start the second half. Quarterback Ian Book scrambled around inside the red zone and hit wide receiver Chase Claypool for the 10-yard touchdown. The Fighting Irish pulled ahead 21-14 with the score.
